THE UNDERGROUND ANNOUNCES THE CONSTRUCTION OF
A WATER FEATURE TO BENEFIT THE VIRGINIA THURSTON HEALING GARDEN

FRAMINGHAM, MA. July 23rd, 2007– The Underground, a New England based grassroots organization of more than 300 green industry professionals, will construct a water feature at The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden, in Harvard, MA. The Healing Garden has been instrumental in providing support and complementary therapies to women with breast cancer since it was formed in 2000.

On July 28th, participants of The Underground’s Water Feature Building Workshop will be led by Jay Bearfield, Internationally Certified Pond Contractor, owner and lead designer of Liquid Landscape Designs, Carlisle, MA. This hands-on workshop will guide participants in the proper construction and installation of a pond, waterfall and stream to be installed at The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden.

The waterfall will provide the gentle sound of flowing water as it connects to a meandering woodland stream culminating in a pool close to an existing circular sitting area. Sitting rocks will be placed alongside the pool so that its beauty can be enjoyed up close. A grassy pathway will lead to a natural stone bridge over the stream and to a secluded area of contemplation. This beautiful new addition to the garden will provide a place of healing and spiritual renewal for women in need. The Underground has been accepting donations of materials and services on behalf of The Virginia Thurston Healing Garden for the completion of this project. The Underground will provide the design and labor for the installation.

“We believe that this donation will serve as a demonstration of our organization’s commitment to the community and bring enjoyment to many women suffering from breast cancer. This project will also follow our organization’s mission to provide unique educational opportunities for our members” said Bridget McManus, president of The Underground.

“Water provides such constancy and serenity to those who are struggling and living with breast cancer. We are thrilled that such a talented group is donating their time and services to make our facility even more healing,” said Betsy Tyson-Smith, Executive Director, the Healing Garden.

We would like to thank all of our sponsors who have helped to make this project possible.
